The sail-shaped hotel on its own island is the image most people picture when they think of Dubai. You do not need to stay there to enjoy it; the public beach at Jumeirah gives you the same view for nothing.
Away from the towers, Deira and Bur Dubai are the older trading quarters. Cross the creek by abra, walk the gold and spice souks, and you see the port town Dubai was before the skyline arrived.
