Qatar

A comfortable stopover and a serious business destination

Qatar rewards a short visit more than most Gulf states. Doha is compact enough to see properly in a few days, the museums are genuinely world-class rather than merely large, and it is an easy stopover to build into a longer journey.

Worth seeing

What to see in Qatar

Souq Waqif
01

Souq Waqif

The restored old market in the centre of Doha, and the best evening in the city. Spice merchants, textile stalls, falcon dealers and coffee houses, under a famous canopy of coloured umbrellas. Go after dark when it comes alive.

Museum of Islamic Art
02

Museum of Islamic Art

I. M. Pei designed this building on its own island in the bay, and it holds one of the finest collections of Islamic art anywhere. The view back at the Doha skyline from its park is the best in the city.

The Corniche and West Bay
03

The Corniche and West Bay

A seven-kilometre waterfront promenade curving around the bay, with the West Bay towers on one side and traditional dhows moored on the other. Walk it at dusk when the towers light up.
